When it comes to our pets, it can be tough to know what snacks are good for them. We often pick up snacks and treats from the pet shop but later found out they aren’t as good as they could be. I wanted to share with you today some ideas for healthy cat snacks so you can treat your kittys without any guilt!

It is important to avoid anything that cats cannot have or isn’t particularly good for them. Did you know chocolate and grapes and raisins are toxic to cats as well as dogs? You should definitely avoid giving these to them! Here’s some top snack ideas.

Salmon

Fish such as salmon can be a great snack or treat for your cats. Whilst they should be getting most of their nutrition through their meals of cat food, salmon is a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. It is often already found in commercial cat food. Make sure it is cooked though rather than raw!

Bananas

I bet this isn’t something you expect cats could have but they can! It has plenty of potassium and they are a really healthy snack. However they should never go above ten percent of your cat’s daily calorie intake so limit the amount of bananas they have.

Eggs

Did you know eggs are safe for your cat to eat? As long as they are cooked properly, eggs can be a great titbit for your cat and can often be found in many cat foods.

Chicken

Chicken is a great source of lean protein which makes it a great choice for a cat snack as long as it has been cooked properly and the fatty skin has been removed before you feed it to your cat.

Cheese

Now cats are said to be lactose intolerant however certain cheeses can be fed to cats raw in small amounts. A harder cheese such as cheddar is recommended and gives them plenty of calcium and protein.

Whole grains

You may not think to give whole grains such as oats or brown rice to your cat but they are good for them with plenty of protein included. If you are looking for a healthy snack, then this is always a great option!

Vegetables

Many cats turn their noses up at vegetables. Just like their human counterparts, they don’t tend to want something as healthy as vegetables when there is other food on offer. However some vegetables make a great snack for kittys. Things that are safe for cats to eat include cucumber, peas and steamed broccoli. Why not try your cats out on some?

Fruits

Just like vegetables, there are some fruits that are a great option for a snack. As well as bananas, you can give them canteloupe melon, blueberries or even seedless watermelon. Yum!

These are just a few of the healthy snacks you can give your cat – what snacks do you give the kitty in your life? Is there anything missing off this list?
