The 4 Big Questions To Ask if You Want To Live in Another Country Right Now

Live in Another Country Right Now

If travelling has been your life over the last few years, but the pandemic has crushed a lot of your ambitions, you may decide that when life slowly begins to return to normal that you have to shake up your life and start all over again. Many people decide to move to another country because they are looking for that fresh challenge, and we are all no doubt thinking about making massive changes to our lives because it’s put everything into focus. But if you really are looking to move to another country, what are the things that you need to think about?

Is it Realistic?

When you are looking to move to another country, you’ve got to make a list of the pros and cons. You have to decide how you will benefit from moving to another country. You can learn a new language, you could improve your career, and you could learn a lot more about yourself, but when you put all these things into play, and you write down some of the challenges of living abroad, you need to ask yourself if these things are realistic. Will moving abroad actually help you accomplish these goals?

And of course, there’s a lot of practicalities that everybody has to consider, not least when it comes to finances. While there are companies such as Buddy Loans that can provide you with the initial cash injection, you have to consider the realistic expectations. You may want to move abroad to spend more time travelling, but when you move to another country, you’re going to have to work, and this means that you won’t have the same sort of adventures as you would if you went on holiday there. But this means you’ve got to look at the goals you want to get out of going to another country, and if these things are realistic.

Are You Running Away from Anything?

This is a very difficult question because when we look at our goals for moving abroad, we have to see if there is a theme coming into focus. Moving to another country can be an adventure, and it can help us learn a lot, but if we are doing it for the very simple reason that we need to get out of our current life, what is it that we’re really running away from? When we try to move to another country, and we want to start all over again, is it actually about getting away from a lot of our old life?

You might be fed up with your job, or life has become boring, but are these reasons enough for you to get up, and move to another country? It’s a very difficult question to actually ask yourself because you may find that you are running away from things, however by actually bringing the realities into focus, will give you a better perspective of what you need to change in your life, rather than actually getting yourself ready to leave everything behind.

Can You Survive Without Your Support Network?

A support network has become invaluable for everybody, especially after the last 15 months, because we are all realising that the people who have been in our lives over the last few months are the most important people. So if you’ve been of the opinion that these people are invaluable to you, how is it going to feel when you move further away? You could argue that you’ve already been separated from the people you care about for so long, so what really is another 400 miles?

But our support networks are so important because they will be invaluable for our sense of self. When you move to another country, you’ve got to recognise that you will need to create another support network. It doesn’t necessarily have to be friends or family members, but about making sure you are able to cope with the pressures that come with living in another country. You might be a very seasoned traveller, but the difference between travelling through another country and actually living there means that you do not get the edited highlights, you get to experience the good and the bad of being somewhere that is completely out of your comfort zone. If you don’t have this support network, how will you feel?

Should You Commit So Soon?

One of the best things we can do is try out a country before we go there. It sounds obvious but many people who decide to live in another country do so on a whim. And right now, there’s a lot of uncertainty with regards to travel bans, and if you can actually get into a country or not. There’s a lot of information out there that can keep you up-to-date on these, such as the GOV.UK site, but you have to ask yourself if you are ready to commit to going to another country and staying there for a long time.

It’s not about trying somewhere for a few months; you’ve got to go there for a few years to experience the peaks and troughs. And this is not the best time to try and move to another country because of all the uncertainty. However, if you are looking to make a massive change to your life, you must think that it is going to be one of the best things you will ever do. But one of the best ways to truly get under the skin of places to get a sense of how life is there. Not everybody has the luxury of money to “try out” a location, but this is why you need to conduct a lot of research first. Now is the best time to learn about a place because of the uncertainty around travelling, and it also allows you the luxury of asking yourself those important questions in life, for example, if you are looking to move to another country because you are bored, or you need more fulfilment in life.

There’s a lot to consider before you move abroad, and when you live in another country, it doesn’t just make a change to your surroundings, but it affects your life in so many different ways. It is a life-altering decision, which is why you need to reflect before you go.
