Review – Maple Barns Swanton Morley

Wondering what Maple Barns Swanton Morley are like? Lottie stayed there for a week with her family. Find out what they thought…

Hi there, I’m Lottie! I run a blog called The Ramblings of Lottie. I’m also a Mum of one little girl and one fur baby, my dog, Cody! As a family, there is nothing we love more than a getaway to the seaside. So that’s why I want to tell you about our visit to Maple Barns Swanton Morley, Norfolk…

Maple Barns Swanton Morley

Maple Barns in Swanton Morley…

Two years ago, we took a week-long trip to Swanton Morley and stayed at Maple Barns. The town was well equipped with a pub and a farm shop (which sold the most delicious homemade bread from the bakery next door). We ended up dining at the pub a few nights during our week-long stay because the food was so comforting, the people were friendly and they let Cody sit indoors with us. The cottages at Maple Barns Swanton Morley were perfect. We stayed in Pheasant Cottage.

My favourite room was the living room. It had huge leather sofas and a log burning fire, which was ideal for a rainy day. From high quality furnishings to tasteful decor, it had a lovely feel to it – they really know how to fit skirting boards and make those extra special touches. The back garden was big enough for Cody to run around in and also had lovely views of fields which were so peaceful. I often found myself at the end of the garden with a cup of coffee, first thing in the morning, watching deer roam around in the grass.

What did we do while we were there?

The town is about a 35 minute drive away from Holkham Beach and Wells-next-the-sea. Both perfect places to visit. Holkham has a gorgeous beach (dogs welcome) and it’s also home to Holkham Hall. A huge park with a rich history.

Complete with a ropes course, woodland play area, cycle hire and boat hire, there’s lots to see and do here. Dogs are welcome but must stay on lead and are not allowed inside. We explored the grounds and there are plenty of walks to do with lots of opportunity to spot wildlife. It also has a café which serves freshly made meals and to-go snacks. You could very easily spend a day here.

Across the road is Holkham Beach. A dog friendly beach with an eco-friendly café on the edge of the car park. As with most places, the fee to park can be quite high but again, you can spend all day there.

Are there any more beaches to try?

If you’d like a beach with a cheaper parking charge, then I highly recommend Well-next-the-Sea. Not only is it a beautiful seaside town with all the traditional Fish and Chip shops, Souvenir shops and Ice cream Parlours but there are lots of places to park (with differing rates).

The beach is, again, dog friendly and even has a puppy drinking station, a dog washing area (so you can clean your dog off before getting back into the car), an adorable café (which serves ice cream for dogs) and a Joules Beach shop (which was super hard to resist).

We enjoyed wandering along the beach with its beautifully painted beach huts. It is also a popular seal spotting site. Cody loved it here and he’s a wimp when it comes to water but something about the salty air, the smell of fish and chips and the feeling of sand between his paws makes him really let his fur down.

Room for improvement at Maple Barns Swanton Morley?

The only things that I can think of to improve our stay would be to have better internet signal. It’s not great around that area anyway but I suppose if you want the family to unplug for a getaway, this is perfect!

Will we return?

Although my little girl was not even one, l can’t wait to take her again. There’s so much to do and see there. When you know you can come back to stay at a cosy cottage like Maple Barns Swanton Morley, it’s even better. We loved snuggling up next to a fire and chilling out after a fun-filled day!

Thank you so much to Lottie for telling us all about her stay at Maple Barns Swanton Morley. To find out more, visit Maple Barns HERE.
