Where is CBD legal?

where is cbd legal

As most of you all are aware, CBD (cannabidiol) is legal in almost all the countries across the globe, because it doesn’t make you feel high or euphoric. It doesn’t contain the psychoactive properties that alter your mental balance, thinking ability, or motor skills.  CBD is extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant. It is the same plant from where the euphoric elements of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and marijuana are obtained. Due to their intoxicating properties, THC and marijuana are banned in most of the countries.

CBD, on the other hand, is loaded with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving substances. Thanks to this, it is used in medicines, beauty products, edibles, beverages and more. Before using or buying cbd in any form or introducing CBD-infused products in your life, you should know if it is legal in your country. In most places, CBD is permissible if it contains less than 0.3% of THC. However, in some countries, CBD is still banned because of the traces of THC in it.

Legal status of CBD in the world today

Here is a brief overview of the legality of CBD in some of the important countries. This will not only help you consume CBD safely in your country, but also in other places that you travel for official or personal purposes.

Europe

In Europe, CBD is legal in all the countries except these:

  • Albania
  • Andorra
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Bosnia
  • Bulgaria
  • Georgia
  • Iceland
  • Lichtenstein
  • Malta
  • Monaco
  • Montenegro
  • Norway
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Ukraine
  • Vatican City

South America

Here, the use of CBD is legalized in most places, but the rules are quite confusing with a lot of conditions.  The places where the use of CBD is strictly prohibited are Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. In Uruguay, CBD is legal only for its residents. In all other South American countries, CBD is not legal, but it is decriminalised.

Africa

CBD is not authorised anywhere in the African continent, but the authorities are not very strict when it comes to checking this.

America

Thanks to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, the use of CBD usage is legalised in most of the counties here. The place is divided into 4 categories – Green States, Amber States, Amber/Red States and Red States, based on the CBD legality in them. Here, CBD is commonly available and legal in the green and amber states. The red states where CBD is prohibited are Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Australia

Here, CBD is permitted, but only with a prescription. CBD use should be for medical purposes only to be authorised here.

New Zealand

Like Australia, here too, CBD is allowed, when you show a doctor’s prescription. CBD-infused products are legal in New Zealand, provided they contain less than 2% of THC in it.

Canada and Mexico

The use of CBD is completely legal in Canada and Mexico. CBD products are freely available in every city here.

Middle East

CBD is still not legal in this part of the world. In countries like Israel, efforts are on to make it a decriminalised product. However, in most other places like Saudi,  carrying CBD can result in a death penalty for you.

Asia

In the Asian continent, the use of CBD is legal in these places:

  • Japan allows you to use CBD only if it contains 0% THC, whereas the rules in India are not very clear, though the use of CBD is not strictly prohibited.
  • Thailand allows CBD only if it is 99% pure CBD and contains less than 0.01% of THC in it.
  • In South Korea, CBD is authorised, but only if it is used for medical treatments.

So, always check for the latest laws on CBD in your country before you use them, to avoid getting into problems later on.
